Halloween is supposed to be all about the scary, but really, for most of us, isn't it all about the candy? :)

When I was a kid, we used to haul in our bags and dump them out on the floor to see what we had. We'd swap what we didn't like with each other (it was often my brother and/or my cousins and/or a friend or two). We'd eat a bunch just because we could. And then we'd hoard it. Fights often ensued when I found out my brother had snuck a full-size Kit-Kat out of the bag in my room when I wasn't there.

Some of my favorite trick-or-treat candy was stuff I didn't normally buy the rest of the year. Bit-o-Honey. Charleston Chew. Now and Laters. Sugar Babies. Yeah, all the stuff that stuck to your teeth!

My tastes as an adult are much more refined. I prefer dark chocolate, especially containing bits of something: toffee, salted caramel and almonds, peppermint bits. That's not trick-or-treat kind of stuff. The stuff I buy to hand out is usually Dove or Whoppers or Peppermint Patties. LOVE the years we don't get a lot of kids!

In recent years, candy companies have been coming out with holiday-specific flavors, like candy corn M&Ms. There's a bag of those on my table right now. Which limited editions are your favorites?

I love Halloween themed romances whether they be super scary or sugar sweet and light. My favorite things about Halloween are the haunted houses, trails, and even the mazes.

I loved taking my kids trick or treating and making their costumes. When I was a kid, we had one family down the street who always gave full size candy bars. We would stop at their house first just in case they ran out of candy!

I love this time of year. Halloween is a plus for this time of year. I now love spending them with my children. When I was small we lived in a small town with a population of under 1,000. I would meet up with my cousins and we would make two rounds before we went to my aunts farm for an hayride and hotdogs. Caramel nut apples are some of my fave desserts for this time of year.
I also enjoy Halloween romance.
Thanks :)
Lori

I love the fall, and Halloween is a symbol of that, so yes on Halloween romances and mazes and hayrides and definitely on full-size candy bars! :)

Thanks for commenting, you guys! I'll be out of town for the weekend so anyone else who oomments, I'll respond when I return! :)

I don't think I've read any Halloween themed romances! I love this time of year

I never tricked or treated as a kid and did limited with my own children. None of them are big chocolate or candy fans in general. I do love peppermint patties though.

You had me at "candy."

I love Halloween theme romances! I can't get enough of them. As far as childhood memories of Halloween one stands out and that is the year I dressed up as the Peculiar Purple Pie Man from Strawberry Shortcake. I remember that costume most of all.

My kids are to old to trick or treat but now we have fun scaring the kids who come to the door. Love haunted houses and scary movies. We make caramel apples and popcorn balls.
Haven't read any Halloween romances, then again I guess all paranormal books have a bit of Halloween.

Natalie J. Damschroder said...

@Michele, I can't think of any I've read, either, but now I want to.

@Sue, kids who don't care for candy? o.O

@Trish LOL

@Pam, that costume had to be awesome! :)

@Steph, my favorite haunted house was at summer camp. The counselors did it and they actually freaked us the hell out. LOL Good point about paranormal books. I'm reading The Mortal Instruments right now, and the tone is very Halloweeny!

I love Sugar Babies! Of course, now I'm craving them. :D

Hi Natalie! Happy Halloween! I have a big sweet tooth, so really I enjoy all candy. ;) I had no idea there were candy corn M&M! Must check them out!

Natasha said...

I love Halloween themed romances!
My favorite Halloween memories are when my parents would take me trick or treating when I was little.
Thanks for the chance to win!

Natalie J. Damschroder said...

Right, Marisa? I have to get some, too. :)

Yeah, Robin! Especially if you like white chocolate. They're big fat M&Ms, too. :)

Thanks for commenting, Natasha! Good luck!

I love when Halloween gets here because to me it means the official start of the holiday season. I love the weather changes. Favorite candy is anything with dark chocolate! :)

Thanks for stopping by, Jeana and Janhvi!

When I used to go out on halloween it was always a contest between my brother and I who would get the most candy (Iawlays won !)

I've always loved dressing up. It was such a fun time of year. I still enjoy dressing up with my children. Of course, I can't have sugar (sadly), so my favorite Halloween candy is sugar-free dark chocolate. Yummy. As for Halloween themed romances, I like them, especially if there's some paranormal or supernatural aspects thrown into it.

Natalie J. Damschroder said...

@ash_lake07, sibling rivalry is always awesome when you win. :)

@Michelle, thumbs up to sugar-free dark chocolate! And you can totally justify getting yourself extra since you can't raid the kids' buckets. LOL

My favorite thing is getting all that candy and dressing up in great creative costumes. I never had a store bought costume (too expensive) so Halloween was when my creativity had to come out. I like all Holiday themed romances especially suspense and paranormal ones on Halloween

Natalie J. Damschroder said...

Store-bought costumes are overrated, Nicki! I bet you came up with some great ones. :)

Videoclimber said...

I love anything Halloween or scary, romances included. My favorite memories are of our homemade costumes that my Grandma made for me, and then made for my children!

That's cool, Tia! My mother-in-law made a clown costume for her first grandchild, when he was about 2, and both my kids wore it, too. I love the tradition in that kind of thing. :)

I have a really bad memory and don't really remember much of my Halloweens :( Basically just whatever's been photographed and I have scanned to my laptop. I love seeing all the cute and clever costumes others wear each year :) My parents put together a Raggedy Ann outfit for me when I was maybe 5, blue dress, white leggings and arms, facepaint to match the doll's look, and a red yarn wig!

Natalie J. Damschroder said...

That sounds like a fantastic costume! Mine were never that elaborate. :)

Unknown said...

I haven't read any Halloween themed romance so i would love to try it. Especially, I love Halloween.

Tina B said...

I love watching the kids get so excited about Trick or Treating!
My youngest is 3, so his excitement just started, while my 15 year old just wants the candy. Lol.
Thanks for sharing and for the contest. :)
Happy Halloween!

Natalie J. Damschroder said...

Jothee, I'd like to see more Halloween-themed romances, too! Maybe I'll have to write one...

Tina, that's got to be cool. Does your 3-year-old keep your 15-year-old interested? My teens were bored by the whole thing pretty early. :)

Ashfa said...

I haven't read Halloween themed romances but it looks like a great genre to read! Thanks for the giveaway.

Mimi Smith said...

Haven't really read any Halloween themed. It could be cool, though. Halloween is a fun holiday :)

One year my BFF and I went trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. We stopped at a neighbors house—there was a light in the window and a scarecrow sitting in a rocking chair holding a bowl of candy, honor system and all that—discussing as to whether the scarecrow looking like either of our grandmas or not. We approached the scarecrow and as we put our hands in the candy bowl, it moved. Of course we screamed laughed after realizing my neighbor was the scarecrow. Oh, good times.

I've actually never read Halloween-themed romances. I'm more of a Christmas romance kind of girl :)

I haven't read a ton of Halloween-themed romances, but I do like them so far (especially m/m ones).

Kati, my husband did that when he was a teenager! :) I love it. Harmless fright on Halloween.

So what I'm getting from all these comments is that there aren't enough Hallowee-themed romances! LOL

Those perfect Halloweens that fell on Saturdays--we would start trick or treating mid-morning and stay out until after dark!

Thanks for the amazing giveaway!

My favorite memory about trick or treating is one year our town and our cousins' town had it on different nights. So my brother and I got double candy that year. We thought we were so cool

I always have loved Halloween. When I was younger I'd get to dress up and go out with friends and all that candy. Now that I'm older I still get to dress up with the kids and watch them get excited about all that candy. lol

Yay for double candy, Jessie! LOL

Kimmy, that's one of the perks of parenting, I think. And they look so friggin' cute. LOL

I have always loved Halloween. I still remember trick or treating with my brothers and all the candy we would get. Now with kids I get to enjoy new memories with them especially since my daughters birthday is on Halloween.

I actually love the Christmas limited edition candy. Hershey's kisses Dark Choc Mint Truffles & the white choco peppermint ones.

I can't say that I've ever read a Halloween themed romance, but I would be open it to.

Natalie J. Damschroder said...

How cool, Athena, that your daughter was born on Halloween! Were any of the hospital staff in costume? (Assuming there was a hospital. LOL)

Krista, I've been thinking the same thing! LOL Halloween has all the traditional stuff in bite-sized sizes and they've stuck pumpkin spice in every darned thing, but yeah, I love the dark chocolate and peppermint flavors that go along with Christmas.

My favorite was any candy that is sour like sour apple now & laters or lemon heads.

Natalie J. Damschroder said...

Oooh, Lemon Heads! I used to love those. Also Red Hots. A store owner where I used to buy them always called them Head Rots, and I still do. LOL
